The Spark
They sit in a room together nearly oblivious to their friends, even when they can spare a glance towards an unprovoked comical comment, their eyes are still on each other. Everyone can see it but them but their guests ignore the tension, the lightning spark still singes the air, we can cut it with laughter even so it's more like they're ignoring us and are laughing together. They may never see it, that invisible thing, that something that hangs even though everyone else does. Or maybe they do and they're silently hoping we all leave the room.
It's a shy, awkward high school play where neither kid is popular, it's painfully familiar to the point of yelling at the TV screen to not enter the room or to go ahead and confess your secret, yet the actors don't hear the words or heed any warnings. They go on about the script despite what's really good for them but no one finds the acting to be that skilled.

The Vagrant by Peter Newman

A science-fiction book, the first in a trilogy.

It focuses on a mute man simply known as The Vagrant as he travels from the unnamed Southern Continent towards the also unnamed Northern Continent, armed with nothing but a baby girl, a goat, and a sword called The Malice. He fights demons, half-breeds and other humans in order to reach The Shining City. It is a long perilous journey.

Plot be in my own words.

This began as hella interesting. The writing style was unique and fresh in the beginning but only served to annoy and frustrate at the end with lack of any real context and description, let alone emotional depth. And simply calling the continents North and South is worse than Westeros and Essos. How can any writer purposely try to be worse than that fat ass fan boy?

The world is a broken wasteland where its every man for himself but lack of any actual description of his surroundings leaves a lot to be desired. The demons whom I'm guessing just sprang out of the ground, because that's the only explanation for said demons, are unique, terrifying and absolutely disgusting to behold. Initially that's what drew me in. I had a sense of a man whom looked and acted like a (mute) Ezio Auditore (Assassin's Creed) in Dante's shoes and city in DMC (Devil May Cry 5). I would love to see this animated or even live action, if only the overarching plot made sense. Now the story progression is very RPG like, The Vagrant crosses the land on foot slaughtering minor enemies until he makes it to the next large city where he takes on the main boss then continues on in the same exact fashion like an episode of Pokémon.

Now for the small snippets of a back story, you get one for the baby girl he's carrying and himself when he was younger. You also get a small and unsatisfactory one for the world and what caused this trove of demons whom has control of Southern Continent. In my own words, there were Angels whom had been charged with watching over this world but thousands of years of peace has made them lazy. The demons take advantage of their lack of vigilance and spring forth. The Angels sends legions to fight the demons, when Arc Angel Gamma takes on the Green Sun (moniker of the head demon) she is slain, her sword The Malice mysteriously ends up in The Vagrant's hands some odd years later.

Here's my fucking problem: The Malice can defeat the demons, that is drilled in your head every goddamn chapter. However, The Malice and Gamma HAS ALREADY LOST. HOW CAN IT MAKE A DIFFERENCE LATER WHEN IT DIDN'T IN THE BEGINNING?! What's worse is that the Green Sun could have destroyed the damn sword after killing Gamma but for some unexplained reason......did not.

As The Vagrant continues his trek, towards the end of the book he meets a man called Harm who helps to speak for him and raise the baby girl. They have a pseudo homosexual relationship. Lacking in sex but present in emotion, and physical  closeness that mimicks some type of romantic intimacy. It annoyed me. Like goddammit just be gay already.

The last 10 chapters killed it for me, so much that I will not continue it. Now the last couple of chapters take place in the last human stronghold against the demons, then drifts across the sea towards The Shining City. While in the last strong city, they discover a child prostitution ring and another demon enemy called The Nomad King, is revealed. I thought these chapters were a waste of space. Waste of words that only served to draw out the story in a very boring manner. I won't ruin the ending but I give it 3.5 stars out of 5. This could have been a whole lot better.

So season 2 just started up and I'm more excited than ever. Didn't get a chance to buy the green Tekkadan jacket like I want but I got Orga and Mikazuki on pre-order from amiami. Cause I can't get Orga without Mikazuki the same way I can't have Worick without Nicholas. So I've been really into this Gundam series lately, and at work I was contemplating yaoi pairings for Orga, since he's the only main male character who openly states that he doesn't care about women (and as Eugene states, cause he's never been with one). I mean, to me, Orga doesn't seem openly gay, he feels more like he's awkward and uncomfortable around women who aren't business partners with Tekkadan. He gets along with Kudelia, and Naze Turbine's harem of wives. Remember Orga plainly states that the CGS officers "used them for sexual relief", that's about as kid friendly as you can get while not trying but directly implying RAPE. I think due to this, (the boys must have gotten used to it, but as far as we know, never had sex with one another) Orga may feel uncomfortable or ashamed to consider women romantically. I believe that's what his problem is. I fear that Orga may isolate himself from the other members of Tekkadan and will do something stupid and reckless (the way Biscuit feared he would). So thinking about his relationships with his male friends, I came to a conclusion on whether Orga would be a seme or uke.

  • Orga Itsuka x Akihiro Atland: Orga-seme, Akihiro-uke. Akihiro always put up this tough front with his constant reminding Orga and Mikazuki that he was Human Debris (a really nice way of calling him trash) and how they shouldn't associate with him often. Orga always countered this by not caring about the label and treating Akihiro no differently. I think in part Akihiro did this to push them away, to see if they were being honest about their feelings not being dependent on the label that was put on him. When he finally realize that Orga is sincere in this, Akihiro feels greatly relieved and appreciated. Akihiro is a big guy, but he looks like he'd be a very submissive and almost loving bottom for Orga.
  • Orga x Eugene Seven Stark (first off, does anyone else feel like this is a weird GOT reference? Or Iron-Man?): Orga-seme, Eugene-uke. We've read their type in plenty of yaoi. Eugene clashed a lot with Orga due to jealousy. Orga is a lot more dominant in their relationship. Their relationship seems like rather standard yaoi.

  •  Orga x Mikazuki, Orga-seme, Mikazuki-uke. This is the nature of their relationship. Orga leads, Mikazuki follows. Mikazuki is down for anything, I really like his aloof-devil-may-care attitude. If Orga wanted to fuck him, Mikazuki probably wouldn't question him, he'd just accept it like he does with all of Orga's decisions. In this regard, Orga really fucking needed Biscuit. I really don't ship their pairings, they really seem like brothers to me rather than could be lovers. I feel the same about Orga and Naze too. In a way their relationship is a lot like Griffith (Orga) and Guts (Mikazuki) from Berserk. Guts (once upon a time) and Mikazuki will kill anyone to make Griffith and Orga's dream come true. Deadly combos right there. I read a fan response on tumblr where they make the observation on how Orga and Mikazuki's relationship is fucked up but they didn't elaborate on the reasons. I speculate its because Orga will tell Mika to kill someone and he simply will, no questions asked, no hesitation, no remorse, no guilt, from either of them.
  • Orga x Mcgillis Fareed: Orga-uke, Mcgillis-seme. I ship these two so much right now. Orga and Mcgillis are almost the same character, they have a lot in common. Mcgillis is a bastard and therefore looked down upon in his society, Orga is an orphan for Mars, still looked down upon in his society. They are both committed to their tasks and are willing to do almost anything to see it done. Except Mcgillis is willing to sacrifice his friends Galileo and Carta, and even kill his own blood (his father) to achieve his goal. Orga will not go that far (yet, I believe given the right circumstances and provocation, he can and will) to sacrifice anyone in Tekkadan because everything he does is for them and without them, his end goal is meaningless. So Mcgillis strikes me as being the more dominant of the two, the more aggressive when it comes to what he wants. This will make him seme.

I want to write more on Berserk though, reading the manga, I feel like I understand their characters a lot more from a psychological standpoint. For now I will meditate on the true meaning or Orga and Mikazuki's superiorxsubordinate relationship. Ciao.
